Close the cash drawer

Open and close a cash session, count blind, resolve the variance, prepare the deposit with custody details, and record the operational close.

Cash control runs on the counter's Cash and Close tabs. One physical drawer has at most one live cash session, and counts are blind.

Before you start: the station is paired and unlocked with your PIN. Resolving a variance and recording closes are manager actions.

Open the session

At the start of service, tap Open cash session on the Cash tab and enter the float. Record movements during service: paid-outs, float top-ups, drops to the safe.

Count blind

  1. At the end of service, tap Close cash session, then Blind count.
  2. Count mode hides the expected cash. Enter what is in the drawer by denomination.
  3. Submit. The variance is revealed only after the count is recorded.

If the count is questioned, a manager can request a Recount. Both counts stay on the record.

Resolve the variance

A manager opens the variance and records the resolution and reason. Variances feed the loss-prevention exception queue; nobody can clear their own.

Prepare the deposit

  1. On the Close tab, tap Create deposit batch.
  2. Enter the bag and seal identity, the witness, and the courier or bank reference when the bag leaves the premises.
  3. When the bank statement line arrives, record it and match it to the deposit.

Record the closes

  • Operational close for the business date confirms the day can move on. Every open exception needs an owner, a deadline and a recovery route first.
  • Financial close is separate and is done from Finance as part of the month-end. See Run your first month-end close.
