A stocktake counts everything and produces a variance against what the ledger expected. A spot count checks a few items in between.

**Before you start:** count after the last delivery of the day and before service, so the ledger and the shelf line up. Stock write access is needed to submit.

## Full stocktake

1. Open **Stock › Stocktake** on a phone.
2. Items are grouped by storage area in walk order. The last known quantity is ghosted beside each line.
3. Enter the counted quantity. To count in a different unit, enter the unit and the conversion factor when prompted.
4. Do not skip lines. Enter zero for items that are gone.
5. The sticky footer shows counted and remaining. Submit when every area is done.

The server computes the variance and records a variance trigger for the variance report. The count, the invoices and the balance each keep their own record.

## Spot count

1. Open **Stock › Spot count**.
2. Search the item, enter what you see, submit.

Use spot counts for your highest-value items between stocktakes. Each one raises the confidence badge on that balance.

## Read the variance

Open **Stock** home. The recorded balance signals table and the variance report show the difference by item, with the waste and receiving records that explain it. Log waste as it happens so the variance is explained before anyone assumes a loss.

## Counting with two people

Split storage areas between phones. Each count is recorded under the person who made it.
